CNC Machine Shop Intern

In the Summer of 2023 I interned at a local machine shop. CNC machining is basically precise metalworking where a mixture of mills, lathes and other devices come together to make any geometry you want to an extremely precise degree. I ended up doing mostly an operator role but there was this senior machinist who taught me a ton about setup, CAM and manufacturability. What a legend. They had a bunch of extremely cool 5-axis DMG Mori machines as they were slowly replacing the horde of old rusty ones, some of which were still manual. It would be real fun to try and automate that entire process. This one company Hadrian is working on doing just that, but they never responded to my emails.
